Call of the Beastby Bethany Tolson There is a story, that my grandmother tells, that always make the hair on my arm stand on end. Mother says that it is just a story, that I shouldn't be so silly, I'm too old for ghost stories, and none of it is true anyway. It is always just as mother is saying that, that Grand-mama winks at me.
It all happened a very long time ago, when Grand-mama was just a girl. She was living with her older brother, Matt, and her parents near the seaside in Little River, South Carolina, one of the oldest and most unique towns in South Carolina.
Known for its fresh seafood, fishing charters, annual blue crab festival, and historic centuries-old live oak trees, it is one of the last communities on the Grand Strand where a slower pace of life still exists in a quaint fishing village. Or that is what Grand-mama says about the town where she used to live. Mother says it was dull, dirty and old fashioned.
The story starts with Matt coming home from Princeton for the summer holidays and his parents inviting some friends round for an evening party. They couldn't have known what lay in wait for them that night.
To sign up, email adrianna dot pinska at gmail dot com, hodgestar at gmail dot com or darkoutthere at gmail dot com. Please note that this LARP will be run twice—on Thursday evening and on Friday evening. When you sign up, please indicate which night you prefer and how strongly you prefer it. |
Asylum at Pirate's Coveby Robyn Saul and Annick Drewnicki The Calypso wallows dangerously low in the water carrying holds full of booty as the rising waves slop over her deck. The crew scurries across the ship and up her masts, hurrying her towards safe anchor. Tonight, while the storm rages outside, there will be revelry and rum and celebration while the booty is divvied up. And under the current of merriment the rumours run rampant. Are the unsettling events a sign that The Calypso or one of her crew has been cursed? Has the Captain grown tired of the sea and who will take his place then? What will the fate of the captive, Isabella Montgomery, be? Will the secret of the lost treasure of the Umber Oyster finally be revealed? But most importantly of all.... can you get your hands on the spoils that your heart desires?
Be you the bosun, the captain, musician or carpenter, life on a pirate vessel is filled with danger and excitement, curses and fortune... and heaps and heaps of exotic goods and gold... it’s time to stake your claim.
This will be the Cape Town premiere of this Jo'burg LARP! To sign up, email hodgestar at gmail dot com or adrianna dot pinska at gmail dot com. This LARP is now full—please let us know if you would like to be on the waiting list. Everyone on the waiting list will get first dibs on spaces when we run it again—which will be shortly after Dragonfire! |
